From the 20th to the 21st Century

Goldstein & Russell’s roots date back to 1999 when Tom Goldstein hung a shingle to form Thomas C. Goldstein, P.C. The firm has undergone several name changes over the years but today is carries the names of partners Tom Goldstein and Kevin Russell. Though the firm is small, it carries a big punch, with lawyers boasting prior experience at the DOJ, BigLaw, and SCOTUS clerkships.

SCOTUS Regulars

Goldstein & Russell has extensive experience before the Supreme Court. Indeed, the firm’s lawyers have argued more than 50 cases before the highest Court. The firm’s experience runs the gamut, from constitutional law and patents to energy regulation and employment—plus much more. The firm also counsels clients on the plausibility of pursuing  a petition for certiorari. Oftentimes, lawyers from Goldstein & Russell are brought in as co-counsel at the Supreme Court stage.

Although the firm principally practices in the Supreme Court, it also represents clients in a small number of important matters in the federal courts of appeals.

Teaming Up with Harvard

It’s no surprise, given the firm’s experience, that its pro bono work also focuses on Supreme Court matters. The firm works with the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic at Harvard Law School. Generally, the firm and clinic work together on matters for which SCOTUS has already granted certiori. Students participating in the clinic spend their winter term in DC and work full time in the clinic.
