Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP

Our Survey Says

Joining the Kasowitz Benson Torres team is competitive – the firm primarily recruits from T-14 schools and schools in the NYC area and candidates should have a strong interest in litigation, prior work experience, and a collegial personality. From informal happy hours to firm-sponsored events, the attorneys are cordial and enjoy each other’s presence within a laid-back environment. Partners are easily accessible through their open-door policy and the associates feel their input is truly valued. Transparency from firm leadership into promotion, financials, and performance is opaque, but improvements are under way. While the associates say the billable hour requirement is high and workdays can be long, the firm tells us the formal requirement has been discontinued. In any case, associates appreciate that their hours are spent working on truly substantive matters and gaining firsthand experience. Salaries and bonuses are generally on par with the market, but the firm tends to lag in matching increases. The firm’s technology allows the attorneys to seamlessly work from home. First-year associates receive a robust formal training from Kasowitz University, the firm’s formal training program, and associates are thrilled with the mentor relationships that form organically. Promotion to partnership is realistic for the associates and outside options include non-partner roles, in-house, or government positions. The associates rave about the firm’s commitment to pro bono work noting the unlimited amount of pro bono work that may count towards the billable requirement.
