Why Work Here?
Stroock is a place where talent is cultivated, creativity and drive are rewarded, and careers are built. It’s a place where training and mentoring take center stage, DEI initiatives are prioritized, and opportunities abound. With exceptional lawyers, high standards, and a well-earned “Big Law” reputation, we’re also known for our entrepreneurial approach and close-knit culture.
Sure, we work hard, but we also laugh hard, and grab lunch together. Stroock is a place where mentors are discovered; where successes and challenges are shared; and where lifelong friendships begin. In a nutshell, Stroock’s a great place to be.

Our lawyers thrive on “Big Law” work and opportunities while benefitting from boutique-like, mentoring and collegiality.
The Work We Do
Located in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, D.C., we are leaders in real estate, litigation, government regulation and enforcement, niche and complex corporate work, and private funds and asset management. We provide a full range of legal services and business guidance to our clients to ensure their success. As clients told Chambers & Partners, "Stroock is extremely focused on client service and delivery, making each client feel important," and “their advice and experience are consistently of the highest caliber."
Starting Out
As summer associates and new lawyers, you’ll learn from the best. Your skills, creativity and contributions will be appreciated and rewarded. Our lawyers and professional staff will ensure your potential and aspirations are fueled in an inclusive, encouraging environment. Early and often, you’ll work on meaningful, engaging assignments for world-class clients. You’ll flourish.
Associates
Let’s face it, wherever you go, an associate’s job can feel thankless. But at Stroock, we pride ourselves on solutions for our clients and for our people. We’ll give you the tools, training and support you need to develop and refine your skills, build confidence and achieve. You’ll be respected. Your opinions will matter. Your hard work will be rewarded, and your contributions will be acknowledged.
Our junior associate mentoring program proffers one-on-one guidance, ongoing feedback and performance evaluations designed to advance your career as well as your personal and professional growth. Our Associates Committee meets monthly with firm leadership to discuss issues, innovation and ideas in our shared quest for continuous improvement and to ensure the collective “associate voice” is heard.
Summer Associates
Our top-ranked 10-week summer program introduces students to a range of assignments across our various practices. We seek clever, creative thinkers with strong communication skills, a drive for excellence and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. We value resourcefulness, creativity and a sense of humor (hey, we’re together a lot!).
Our program is small. We like it that way. Our summer associates get meaningful exposure to partners, associates and professional staff. You’ll have plentiful opportunities to dig into substantive assignments and explore various aspects of life in Big Law. People will know your name. You’ll receive consistent feedback, tailored guidance and focused skills development. From writing workshops to mock trials, you’ll gain broad exposure to a range of disciplines, development exercises and best practices. We also host a range of social events from intimate to large scale, so summers get to know us on a personal level.
Laterals
Laterals coming to Stroock are welcomed, supported and given tools to lead and freedom to innovate. Our Talent Management team will help you seamlessly integrate and develop career paths that speak to your goals and interests. As a lateral, you will work in teams with top-notch talent and have significant client contact, allowing to further your client development and service skills.
Diverse Viewpoints and Experiences = Better Solutions
At Stroock, we celebrate differences, foster inclusion and prioritize talent development for all. We nurture, integrate and empower our lawyers in an atmosphere of openness, cooperation and respect. Our lawyers benefit from internal and external networking opportunities and develop informal mentor relationships through numerous DEI initiatives dedicated to helping them advance their careers. Among our affinity groups are Attorneys of Color; Stroock Women, Working Families; and Stroock LGBTQ attorneys, staff and allies. All partners in leadership positions participate in mandatory in-depth, anti-racist leadership training. We also feature mandatory diversity training for everyone at the firm as well.
In 2020, we established the Anti-Racist Ideas & Action Initiative (ARIA) to redefine and re-energize the firm’s commitment to racial justice and actively engage in anti-racist legal and community-based work in our effort to fight for fairness and justice today, tomorrow and into the future. ARIA also works to ensure Stroock is as inclusive, authentic and equity-promoting as possible.
Public Service & Pro Bono
We could tout our own horn here, but we’ll let the American Bar Association say it for us. In 2022, Stroock was awarded the Pro Bono Publico Award – the highest honor given by ABA’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service – in recognition of our commitment to providing legal services to the disadvantaged. Through the years, we have not only provided services but we’ve led the industry in shaping the private bar’s response to crises such as September 11, Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy and the COVID-19 pandemic. We provide crucial support to a varied roster of charitable and civic organizations and launched the Small Business Legal Relief Alliance to aid thousands of small business owners battered by the pandemic’s outfall.
We regard pro bono, social responsibility, and equal access to justice as essential aspects of our culture. From civic reform efforts led by our founders to recent work for migrant families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border and Afghan and Ukrainian refugees seeking safety in the U.S., we are gratified and proud to be a pro bono leader.
