Vault’s Verdict

The overwhelming reaction to including Lockheed Martin on our consulting survey is "huh?". Which is understandable: the firm is, after all, primarily known as an aerospace specialist and defense contractor. But, given that much of its work is done for the government, and that much of that work involves sending contract employees to recommend and implement technology solutions, the firm does meet the definition of a consulting outfit. Not that it matters to its reputation as an employer: while it has seen some layoffs in recent years, the firm's revenues and headcount both appear to be on the up again, and its reputation as a gold-plated name for anyone with the technical chops to cut it has not suffered one iota. Throw in its status as a family-friendly employer, and you've got the makings of an excellent place to spend a few years of your career.
