It's practically impossible to emulate a production Episodic Team in a classroom, so despite knowing the stages of production, how to draw, and what roles exist, I really didn't /know/ about production. At Nickelodeon I was taught everything from the ground up. They don't expect you to know all the details, and are happy to teach. It's not just practice either. After a few weeks I was working on actual breakdowns and callouts for the show. I was taking notes in real meetings. The skills I was being taught was being applied near-immediately.
Nickelodeon also has something called MEAN (Mentoring Every Available Nicktern). These were weekly (sometimes twice a week) lunches provided by Nickelodeon where a professional in their field would talk to us about their work. They were always so kind and I still frequently see them.
