Acritas has named Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates as the U.S. law firm with the strongest brand. Skadden also killed it in Vault's 2013 rankings, ranking No. 4 for overall prestige, No. 1 for general corporate practice, and No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic, among many other rankings.
A partner of Hogan Lovells LLP has been accused of attacking opposing counsel with his briefcase in a Brooklyn courthouse. It seems that the partner was channeling Hulk Hogan rather than one of the firm's founding partners, trial lawyer Frank J. Hogan.

Pomerantz LLP filed a class action lawsuit against Walter Investment Management Company alleging the company violated SEC regulations. Recently, the Walter Investment admitted that there were material weaknesses in their internal controls over financial reporting.
The former chairman of the now defunct Dewey & LeBoeuf and three other of the former firm's high ranking partners have been charged with 106 counts related to "cooking the books." The indictment quotes a variety of colorful and incriminating e-mails such as one stating "Hey man, I don't know where you come up with some of this stuff, but you saved the day. It's been a rough year but it's been damn good. Nice work dude. Let's get paid!" Maybe the partners should have listened to their associates.
A representative from Patton Boggs LLP called the rumor that the firm is facing bankruptcy and hired bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers "laughable." The firm is currently in merger talks with Squire Sanders and has recently asked 15 to 20 partners to leave who were not producing enough, a move that had been planned for over a year.
