Assurance
The role that accountants play in protecting the capital markets system has never been more important or visible. In fulfilling that role, our Assurance practice works to ensure that the financial information our clients report to the investing public and other stakeholders is clear and reliable. When we fulfill our role as Assurance professionals by standing firm on quality and integrity, we have a direct impact on how well the world's capital market system functions.

Our Assurance business is dynamic and fast moving, and involves working with clients that range from high potential startups to cutting edge private companies to the global Fortune 1000. PwC Assurance teams go inside companies, get to know those businesses - and then ask questions, test assumptions, and provide assurance that the company is reporting information that investors and others can rely on.

Advisory
Our firm is also known for its worldwide Advisory practice - distinctive advisors with unparalleled knowledge of business processes, industry insight and technology, financial and regulatory compliance expertise.

For issues our clients face, we provide high-quality, objective advice --supported by fact -- that makes the complex feel clear and achievable. Our advice is given with the courage to debate different points of view with open-mindedness and integrity, and includes the implications of every choice. By bringing our skills and unique talent to the table, we advise clients on some of the most critical aspects of managing their organization -- issues involving performance improvement, transactions and crisis management.

Whether our clients are going after new opportunities, responding to events or coping with the daily pressures of growth, competition and shareholder value, we're there to help. Advisory specialists from all over the world routinely come together to assist clients in creating/acquiring new products or businesses, streamlining business operations, enhancing performance, improving management and control, and addressing crises and threats.

Tax
Market pressures, an increasingly complex regulatory environment, competition and globalization have all converged to complicate an organization's approach to tax planning and compliance. Our Tax practice brings together a distinctive combination of planning, compliance, and industry and regulatory experience to help our clients navigate this changing landscape. We focus on assembling a client service team tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients, which allows us to customize our approach for multinational and local companies, privately-owned organizations, entrepreneurs, family business trusts and partnerships.

Our professionals have an in-depth knowledge of their respective industries and dedicated relationships with their respective clients. Over time, our professionals are also able to gain specialized skills in a technical subject or a specific tax service. Our Tax professionals are in the business of developing new ideas and delivering insightful solutions, which are applicable for both the industries in which our clients operate and the services that they provide.

Washington Federal Practice(WFP)
Living in a rapidly changing environment of physical as well as cyber security threats, increased financial and performance reporting requirements, an increasingly diverse federal workforce, and the implementation of advancing technology, the federal government requires a business advisory that understands these challenges and has the ability to help them respond effectively. Our dedicated federal government practice helps federal agencies address complex business issues, manage risk, improve financial measures, and improve the overall quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of public service through disciplined program oversight. Working with clients, we bring hands-on knowledge of federal standards for systems, internal controls and financial and performance reporting.

Private Company Services (PCS)
Operating as a national business unit with multidisciplinary teams committed to serving the needs of closely held entities and their owners, Private Company Services (PCS) provides trusted guidance, tailored solutions, and customized audit and tax services to private companies. In the wake of sweeping regulatory changes that have significantly changed the compliance requirements for SEC registrants, private companies demand to be served differently. And they demand to be served by trusted advisors who know their businesses, their industries and understand the importance of building relationships. Whether you are dealing with the founder or CEO of a fast growing company or the owner of a well established family business to them it's not just business, it's personal. And we treat it that way.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Innovative Campus Marketing Campaign

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP launched an innovative marketing campaign targeting US college students. The focus of the communications effort includes a new college recruiting website with increased interactivity and a series of creative print ads, all based on research of the collegiate 22-and-under audience, popularly known as Generation Y.

The cornerstone of the campaign is the new college recruiting website (http://www.pwc.tv). The site features videos that tell the story of what it is like to be a part of PwC. The site had a TV theme - so there are various channels that you can explore to learn about a wide variety of matters - from experiences and events, to what it's like to be an intern. From a fun-filled Coaching and Develoment series to involvement with our communities both here and abroad. It can all be found at www.pwc.tv.
A series of new print ads is a central element of the campaign.. The ads prompt students to learn more about PwC by visiting the website.

Another cornerstone of the campaign is the new college recruiting website (http://www.pwc.com/bringit). The site features extensive profiles of each of the employees featured in the ad campaign. The profile pages provide an expanded view of the subjects' professional and personal lives and include day-in-the-life photography and a video interview. This provides an even greater opportunity to engage students via discovered commonalities. Additionally the profiles provide rich and honest Q&A with the associates around their experiences working with the PwC. Links allow students to learn more about the firm, get other information and fill out an Online Career Profile.

PwC Influencing Change Through Meaningful Work

Throughout the year, our offices participate in a wide range of community service programs. The culmination of all this hard work occurs each June during PwC's annual Month of Community Service.. With each person representing an opportunity for inspiration and positive change, we launched an extensive community service campaign called 1/30,000 - if one person can make an difference, image the difference a united 30,000 people can make

From Boston to Seattle, thousands of staff took advantage of the opportunity to help inspire change. They ran carnivals in children's hospitals, acted as mentors for low-income children in day camps, revitalized parks, built homes, ran relays, assisted in homeless shelters, played bingo with the elderly, held book drives, raised money for cancer research and painted schools.

In the summer of 2007, PwC furthered these efforts by providing the opportunity for 100 interns to take part in an international community outreach program called Project Belize. These interns spent 4 days in Belize City - teaching children basic business skills and building them resource centers that house new libraries and computer labs - at 4 local schools. It was an unforgettable experience. For a glimpse into this experience, please visit www.pwc.tv.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Named One of Top 10 Companies for Working Mothers

Continuing personal development, job flexibility, strong career advancement opportunities, leave for new parents, backup child care, and a solid commitment to work life initiatives are among the reasons PricewaterhouseCoopers was ranked by Working Mother Magazine as one of its "Top 10 Best Companies for Working Mothers". PricewaterhouseCoopers is the first professional services firm to be named to Working Mother's Top 10 list, and it is also the eleventh consecutive year the firm has been recognized as a Top 100 company.

In evaluating companies for the list, Working Mother looked at the specific programs and policies that support working mothers. Over the last several years, PricewaterhouseCoopers has instituted and/or improved programs specifically targeting the needs of working mothers, including:

  • Flextime
  • Telecommuting
  • Emergency Backup Childcare and Reimbursement
  • Adoption Services
  • Parental Leave

About half of PwC's U.S. workforce is female, including about 5,500 working mothers.

PwC Goes Back to School...High School That Is

PricewaterhouseCoopers currently is engaged in activities to enhance the profession's reputation with high school students. For example, the firm has an aggressive high school outreach program through the Junior Achievement organization. There is no better way to educate young students about the image of the profession and the firm than to have young staff out meeting high school students. By doing this, students are able to appreciate that PwC has interesting people who are doing interesting work.

PricewaterhouseCoopers believe nurturing bright minds leads to brighter futures. Building on this philosophy, the PwC Impact program ? an educational community outreach effort aimed at academically talented African- American high school juniors ? is a targeted approach to accelerating the introduction of diverse talent into leadership networks. The Impact program, which originally launched in the Washington Metro and New York Metro markets, has since expanded to serve students in the Philadelphia region. Recognizing the importance of role models and their influence on high school students, each Impact scholar is paired with a PricewaterhouseCoopers professional who serves as an experienced resource for the student throughout the program. Through a series of monthly workshops and dedicated mentors, Impact scholars gain the tools to help them achieve admission into some of the premier colleges and universities in the country. The Impact curriculum was developed with renowned teacher, administrator and advisor Dr. Thomas A. Eppley, Jr., whom PwC retained to help build the curriculum and lead the workshops. Do you know someone who might have the right stuff to be an Impact Scholar? Admission to the Impact program is based on a competitive application process. African-American students in their junior year of high school during the 2008-2009 academic year who meet the minimum eligibility criteria of a 3.2 GPA are eligible for consideration. All interested students must complete an application. A PwC selections committee will review the applications, interview the finalists, and select the Impact Scholars. Students selected for Impact are invited to participate in the program for their junior and senior years in high school. For more information about the Impact program, visit: www.pwc.com/impact.
