A Day in the Life: Director of Marketing at HumanaVitality, LLC
Jen Moeller is director of marketing at HumanaVitality, LLC, a comprehensive wellness and loyalty solution where members are rewarded for healthier behaviors. In this role, Moeller oversees all aspects of the company’s marketing, social media and communications strategy and assists with developing innovative new initiatives that inspire healthier behaviors and encourage members to find their own wellness path. Below is her story.
In my position at HumanaVitality, it’s my goal to make personalized health and wellness accessible to our 2.7 million members. I have a personal understanding of the unique challenges they face as I encountered similar obstacles when I started my journey to losing more than fifty pounds several years ago. Today, I am an avid exerciser – enjoying the benefits of cross training through a variety of activities – from walking my two dogs to running, a more recent pursuit. I am passionate about the work I do and love hearing how HumanaVitality impacts people’s lives, from inspiring them to take a walk with their children and grandchildren to encouraging them to quit smoking.
Every day, working for HumanaVitality inspires me both personally and professionally, as I continue on my own wellness path and help our members achieve lifelong well-being.
Day in the Life
6:30 a.m. – Wake up, put on my Fitbit and run as part of my daily exercise routine
8:00 a.m. – Arrive at work and climb the stairs to hit my daily goal of 10,000 steps. Respond to emails and prepare for meetings.
9:00 a.m. – Present update to Humana Well-Being sales team on current Marketing, Social Media and Communications strategy and solicit input. Review direct response campaign that delivers messages about our programs to our members in order to drive important health and wellness initiatives such as the recently launched Vitality HealthyFood™ program in partnership with Walmart. Through this program, HumanaVitality offers 5% savings to members on products that qualify for Walmart’s Great For You™ icon, including fresh fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy.
11:00 a.m. – Jump on the treadmill desk and participate in a team call about the Vitality Champ program, which encourages company “champions” of health and wellness in the workplace. Through the program, HumanaVitality is able to help the “champions” lead their co-workers in achieving a healthier lifestyle. We have found that through conversations with their peers, these “champions” are very effective in helping people in their workplace adapt healthier habits.
12:30 p.m. – Lunchtime. Eat leftovers from last night’s dinner, pork sliders I made for my husband based on a recipe, featured on the HumanaVitality blog.
1:30 p.m. – Meet with marketing, consumer experience, customer service and product teams to track progress on engaging Medicare members in HumanaVitality and inspire them to get on a pathway to health that meets their needs.
2:30 p.m. – Join the HumanaVitality team for an hour of yoga in the office. Breaks like this make a big difference for team morale, acting as an important stress buster and wellness promoter among our associates.
3:30 p.m. – Visit the mobile HumanaVitality Tour experience, which is in downtown Chicago today with one of our large customers. The tour, which visits workplaces across the country, provides participants an engaging way to learn more about HumanaVitality. At the tour stop, participants are motivated to set and reach health-related goals and share in some fun activities like exercise video games.
4:00 p.m. – Return to office and review/edit the activation plan for HumanaVitality’s sponsorship of the Louisville Half Marathon. This sponsorship offers race discounts to HumanaVitality members in the U.S. and provides our members a fun and affordable way to stay active and achieve their wellness goals.
5:00 p.m. – Respond to emails and phone calls. Confirm tomorrow’s schedule. Prepare for the next day’s morning meetings.
5:30 p.m. – Leave the office taking the stairs, of course. Check pedometer (reached 15,000 steps!)
