Closing out Vault Law's 2026 rankings, the Midsize rankings for Regional prestige and Quality of Life are official, as is the 2026 Top 150 Under 150 list.
The Midsize Regional prestige rankings are based on the perception of associates in each region who are working at firms other than the firm being scored. The Overall Best Midsize Law Firms to Work For and Midsize Quality of Life rankings are based on associates’ ratings of their own firms on their current career outlook, the quality of their work assignments, their work hours, and other factors. Vault’s survey was open from January 28 to March 21, 2025.
In the Midsize Regional prestige rankings
- Litigation firm Susman Godfrey keeps the No.1 regional prestige spots in New York and Texas. In October 2024, it secured a $1.6 billion judgment for BML properties in a fraud case against China Construction America. Two years ago, the firm secured a $787.5 million settlement for Dominion Voting Systems in a defamation lawsuit against Fox News.
- In Chicago, Bartlit Beck LLP snags the No. 1 regional prestige spot. The firm also has an office in Denver. It is well known for its trial lawyers and has a respected corporate practice. Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP moves to the No. 2 spot.
In the Midsize Quality of Life rankings
- The Overall Best Midsize Law Firm to Work For is Elsberg, Baker & Maruri, the elite litigation firm launched in 2024. Known for offering its associates opportunities to go to trial as well as paying generous bonuses, the firm also ranks first in 13 other areas, including Associate/Partner Relations, Compensation, and Firm Culture.
- The No. 2 Best Midsize Law Firm to Work For is Austin-based litigation boutique Reid Collins & Tsai LLP. The No. 3 Best Midsize Law Firm to Work For is Bookoff McAndrews PLLC, a Washington, DC-based firm focused on patent counseling and prosecution.
"We saw another strong year from elite litigation firms in both the Midsize prestige and Quality of Life rankings," said Eric Stutzke, SVP and General Manager of Vault. Stutzke continued, "These firms are often small in terms of the number of attorneys they have but deliver tremendous wins for their clients. The attorneys at these firms get to work on landmark cases with top-tier colleagues and are well-rewarded financially.”
In addition, Vault has released the Top 150 Under 150 list of America's leading small and midsize law firms. The firms on the Top 150 Under 150 list are selected by Vault’s law editors. Ten new firms joined the list this year:
