About Rocket
Rocket Companies was founded in 1985 by Dan Gilbert and was originally known as Rock Financial. In 1996, the company created its “Mortgage in a Box” feature and closed on $35 million worth of loans in just two weeks. Rocket Companies has grown to become the largest provider of FHA mortgages and now has nearly 15,000 team members. The company’s current CEO is Varun Krishna, and its corporate headquarters is located in Detroit, Michigan.
In addition to its mortgage offerings, Rocket Companies also launched Rocket Money in 2015, a financial planning app. The app includes features like canceling unwanted subscriptions, spending tracking, financial goal tracking, and budgeting tools. In March 2025, Rocket Companies announced another forthcoming addition to its business profile: it is set to acquire Redfin, a home search platform and real estate brokerage, for $1.75 billion.
