About Stripe
Stripe was founded by brothers John and Patrick Collison in 2009. Originally based in Palo Alto, California, the company relocated to San Francisco in 2012 after acquiring the chat and task management company Kickoff. Stripe is notable for receiving a considerable investment from PayPal co-founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk in 2011. Today, the company is dual-headquartered in San Francisco and Dublin, Ireland.
Stripe offers financial products such as payment processing software, a mobile application, and virtual and physical credit cards. It offers job openings in many locations worldwide and in many departments. It offers full-time, part-time, and contract work, as well as internships. Stripe is proud to rely partially upon open-source software and is committed to giving back to those who provide useful contributions. Its first Open-Source Retreat was designed to help developers receive funding for projects in 2014. Stripe provided grants to a select number of developers to travel to San Francisco and work full time on projects for three months. Those who were chosen had access to space in the San Francisco office, received $7,500 per month in grants, and had the opportunity to provide “tech talks” focused on the projects they were working on.
Stripe has recently expanded into the crypto industry with the acquisition of Bridge in early 2025. Bridge focuses on stablecoins and business lead at Stripe says "we believe stablecoins will play a critical role in turbocharging cross-border commerce."
