About MetLife

MetLife was founded in 1863 as the National Union Life and Limb Insurance Company, which was more than just a clever name. Its mission was to insure Civil War soldiers who had disabilities or who suffered illnesses in the aftermath of battle. Not too long after, the company began selling life insurance policies and changed its name to Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. By World War II, MetLife had the resources at its disposal to be the largest private contributor to the Allied Forces. Today, the firm is the largest life insurer in the U.S.

MetLife offers a variety of life insurance and disability insurance products, dental and vision insurance, vehicle insurance, homeowners’ insurance, and even pet insurance. Prospective employees might be interested in any number of support positions that are available, as well as opportunities in software development and engineering, cyber security threat assessment, and data science.

The MetLife Foundation was founded in 1976, and has since contributed almost $1 billion to communities in need of financial services, disaster relief, support for veterans, funding for education, and more. The foundation donates to the arts and community development, and promotes diversity and inclusion in the communities it services. MetLife encourages its employees to get involved and help strengthen the financial health of their communities.
