Because only a few attorneys are hired each year, the recruiting process for Ashurst is competitive and focuses on academic achievement and work experience. Coworkers are friendly and supportive and enjoy both firm-sponsored and pop-up social events. Partners and associates often work closely together, and partners value associate input on matters and provide fruitful feedback through teaching moments. Formal training—including Ashurst Advance and recorded lectures—and on-the-job experience with partners helps associates feel prepared for the complex and challenging work assignments they receive. Even when pushed beyond their comfort or experience level, associates can rely on oversight by more-experienced partners. Projects are distributed fairly, with associate capacity, skill set, and interest taken into account. Ashurst associates enjoy flexibility in when and where they fulfill the manageable 2,000-hour billable requirement (of which 50 hours can be pro bono work), and they enjoy compensation that matches the prevailing market rate. Firm technology is updated, efficient, and innovative, as evidenced by the adoption of various AI tools. Wellness efforts include a counseling hotline, gym memberships, healthy snacks, and a subscription to Headspace.
