About Day Pitney LLP

With 13 offices along the East Coast, Day Pitney offers legal services through its corporate, litigation, and trusts and estates practice groups. The firm has experience counseling clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 100 companies.

Connecticut’s and New Jersey’s Best Combine

In 2007, Connecticut's largest and most profitable law firm (Day, Berry & Howard) merged with one of New Jersey's largest and oldest (Pitney Hardin) to become Day Pitney—at the time leading to a total of 11 offices along the Northeast Corridor. In the latter half of the 2010s, Day Pitney merged with two Florida boutique firms, expanding the firm’s reach southward into the Sunshine State.

Big Companies, and Big on Individuals

Day Pitney focuses on the following eight “core” industries: energy and utilities, financial services, healthcare and life sciences, insurance and reinsurance, intellectual property and technology, family office practice, real estate and environmental, and tax-exempt organizations and charitable giving. On the corporate side, the firm helps its clients navigate issues of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, securities law, state corporate law, and tax and benefits issues, as well as transactions related to private equity, capital markets, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. On the litigation side, the firm has represented clients of all sizes in disputes related to antitrust, contracts, construction and infrastructure, consumer finance, creditors’ rights, white collar, franchises and distributorships, insurance and reinsurance, product liability, and torts.

Beyond its book of business clients, Day Pitney serves individual and family clients through its trusts and estate group, which the firm claims is one of the largest individual client practices on the East Coast. The group has expertise in matters including family office practice, international trusts and estates, LGBT and matrimonial planning, residential real estate, special needs planning, trust services, and fiduciary compliance.

Commitment to Public Service

Pro bono is engrained in the Day Pitney culture, as evidenced by the firm’s involvement with many local and nationwide initiatives and organizations. The firm’s affiliations include Lawyers for Children America, the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, the Battered Women's Legal Advocacy Legal Project, the Court-Appointed Special Advocate Program, and the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center. The firm’s attorneys have also held leadership positions in a number of organizations, from the American Heart Association to the March of Dimes to the State of New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education.
