VAULT'S VERDICT:

When hiring, Edelson looks for attorneys from top schools with a strong interest in plaintiff-side litigation. The firm provides flexibility to work remotely with strong tech capabilities, and attorneys working from home most or all the time is the norm. However, the firm remains social, with each office holding events such as breakfasts, dinners, or drinks to bring attorneys together. Partners work closely with associates on leanly staffed teams, and they provide constructive feedback. Associates say that they feel fully integrated in the cases they work, and junior associates take on substantial early responsibility, such as going to court and taking depositions. A separate, dedicated team of discovery attorneys handles most document review. The firm has little formal training, and associates do most of their learning on the job. Associates tend to work long hours, but weekend work is uncommon, and the firm strives to balance busy periods with more relaxed ones. Associate compensation is generally higher than the market, especially in terms of base salary, but the firm lacks transparency in this regard. Promotion to non-equity partnership is realistic, and the firm offers personalized promotion tracks to suit individual attorneys. However, equity partnership prospects are limited. Notable perks include six months of parental leave, 401(k) matching, good health insurance, flexible work hours and location, catered lunches when working in the office, and a flexible dress code.
