Colleagues are friendly, down-to-earth, and supportive, and they enjoy spending time together. Partners value associates, and they are approachable and generous with their time in providing support and meaningful opportunities for professional growth, including client face time. The firm offers dedicated training for first years and sessions throughout the year for all associates; however, associates say that informal mentoring is the best training that they receive. Laterals are onboarded effectively through mentorship, training, and early assignments. Associates secure their own work, which they can generally complete on their own hourly schedule without micromanagement, although the firm mandates a three-day in-office requirement. The work available is challenging, level-appropriate, and strategically important. Faegre Drinker’s billable requirement is 1,900 hours, with 50 firm investment hours and 100 pro bono hours counting toward the total needed. Associates in smaller markets indicate satisfaction with compensation. In larger markets, salaries fall below market for mid-level associates. Compensation can be boosted through bonuses, which are awarded in 50-hour increments starting when an associate bills 1,900 hours. Attorneys enjoy innovation through AI and training, seamless work-from-home access technology, and a responsive tech team. Wellness offerings include counseling services and employee assistance programs. All associates are on a partner track, although some opt for counsel roles.
