In addition to guidance and feedback from partners, as well as mid-level and senior associates, the firm offers effective semi-annual trainings. Laterals are onboarded through orientation programs, mentorship, and quick staffing on active matters. Associates receive significant opportunities for substantive work and occasions to advance their growth. Tasks are distributed fairly, and Fish & Richardson maintains a 2,000-hour billable requirement, although associates can reduce their hours for a commensurate reduction in pay. Market salaries are earned when 2,000 hours are billed, but 2,100 billable hours are needed for the market bonus. The firm provides a yearly allowance for technology and equipment for home offices and incorporates technological advancements, including AI tools. Wellness is addressed through counseling services, wellness webinars, and a positive culture that encourages self-care and vacations. Fish & Richardson is committed to pro bono work, with up to 200 hours counted toward the billable goal. This number is reduced proportionally for individuals on a reduced-hours schedule.
