VAULT'S VERDICT

Kuchler Polk is looking for attorneys who can hit the ground running. The culture is respectful and team oriented, with regular social events—virtual or live as appropriate—and whole-firm notifications of professional accomplishments and major life events. Partners are supportive toward associates, and leadership provides a regular “big picture” look at the firm. While formal training is limited to writing and deposition skills courses, the firm supports professional development through educational seminars, CLEs, and informal mentoring. Pandemic economics impacted billable workloads, but associates note an improvement for 2021 and appreciate the firm’s genuine flexibility for where and when work is done. Depending on seniority, associates may be working up a case in the event it goes to trial, managing major litigation themselves, or contributing to all aspects in between. While bonuses are tied to billable hours, attorneys at Kuchler Polk are satisfied with their compensation and highlight other benefits, including 401k matches and options for health insurance. Technology at the firm has been strong since before COVID and is helped by a responsive IT department. Prior to the pandemic, the firm provided weekly yoga, and the new offices have a gym that associates look forward to using. Associates are positive about their career outlook, whether it be an exit opportunity or a senior counsel role, and partnership is a possibility for those who wish it. While no formal pro bono program exists, pro bono hours are counted towards billable totals and pro bono work is encouraged. As for diversity, while associates are not aware of any formal policies, the firm is woman-owned (and founded) and is participating, pro bono, in racial justice litigation with the ACLU.
