Michelman & Robinson values grades, experience, personality, and intellectual curiosity when looking for candidates to join the firm. Attorneys and staff frequently socialize at firm-sponsored events and the firm works hard to maintain a friendly and supportive environment where associates feel like valued members of the team. The firm’s open-door policy supports a collaborative relationship between associates and partners and transparency into firm metrics is an area the firm is working to improve. While everyone keeps busy, the firm affords the associate’s flexibility in work location and a manageable billable hour requirement. The associates are pleased with the firm’s recent increase to associate compensation and appreciate that the tiered bonus system rewards high billers. The quality of the associate’s work is substantive and varied, and the associate’s feel comfortable working above their level of experience with the guidance of their seniors. The firm encourages the attorneys to participate in its wide array of wellness initiatives centered around physical and mental wellbeing. Formal training is robust, from in-house trial advocacy programs to monthly CLEs, and partners take a genuine interest in associate development. Climbing the ranks to partner is a realistic path for the associates, although the firm could be more transparent about how to reach that goal. The firm is strongly committed to pro bono work and the associates appreciate that 50 hours of pro bono work counts toward the billable requirement. The associates believe the firm does its best to foster diversity, however they would like to see more done in terms of hiring and promotion.
