Our Survey Says

 VAULT’S VERDICT

Mintz values candidates who have prior work experience, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a personality that will fit into the firm’s collaborative culture. Caring and friendly, the attorneys at Mintz form friendships organically and often connect with one another both virtually and in-person. The associates appreciate the firm’s transparency into the firm’s performance and finances, and associates feel the partners care about their growth and development and make genuine efforts to give them opportunities to learn in a hands-on environment. Many sections implement a centralized staffing system to help evenly distribute work. The firm affords its attorneys a flexible work arrangement. Base compensation is at market and bonuses are based on a 2,000 total hour requirement, of which 1,850 must be billable hours and the remaining 150 hours can be made up of training opportunities, diversity initiatives, and pro bono work. Bonuses can fall below market at times. The associates find there is no shortage of substantive work appropriate for their level, and Mintz provides opportunities for associates to work on more advanced projects. The firm provided a technology stipend for attorneys to buy items for a home office and access to a 24/7 help desk should hiccups arise. Wellness programs meet regularly and are promoted firmwide through the firm’s wellness coordinator, including meditation, counseling, and exercise programs. Formal training and mentorship programs exist and are well-attended, but associates find real value stems from the informal, on-the-job training. Partnership is a realistic opportunity but may take some time. For those not in pursuit, there are non-partner roles and exit opportunities in-house. Mintz has a dedicated pro bono committee and pro bono work is heavily encouraged, and has made significant efforts to improve diversity through its hiring practices and internal programming.
