At O’Melveny, we perform transformative legal work for industry-leading companies. And we believe that how we do things is as important as what we do. Culture, collaboration, and community are integral to the O’Melveny experience, for our lawyers and clients alike. Our collaborative approach embraces diverse thought, encourages innovation, and supports professional growth. Our work within our communities makes us better lawyers and better people. Our cohesive and caring culture sets us apart. It all adds up to results that earn accolades, client relationships that stand the test of time, and an environment where individuals thrive.

Every lawyer’s trajectory is different—there is no “one-size-fits-all” career plan. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to help lawyers customize their careers according to their own professional goals and personal needs. We offer a confidential in-house career coach, skill-building and leadership training, and a transparent environment that promotes candid conversations and feedback through town halls, mentoring programs, pulse surveys and biannual upward reviews. CCA, our employee assistance program, and award-winning flexible work program, CustOMMize, support wellbeing and encourage lawyers to explore an array of options that help them best manage their responsibilities and goals both in and outside of work. We also provide new-parent transitional coaching and back-up care for children and aging parents.

Our founder Henry O’Melveny and his son Jack O’Melveny, who helped establish the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles in 1929, made dedication to community service and pro bono work one of the firm’s defining principles. Former US Secretary of State Warren Christopher, our late Chairman, embedded that commitment in our core values of uncompromising excellence, distinctive leadership, and superior citizenship. Today, more than 70 percent of our lawyers participate in pro bono projects and annually devote roughly 65,000 hours—which we treat the same as commercial billable hours—to those efforts. All lawyers are encouraged to spend at least 50 hours per year on pro bono work; at a minimum they’re expected to record no less than 20 hours annually. O’Melveny is one of the very few global firms to fully integrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into both our culture and client service, with special attention to developing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. Through our CSR programs guided by the ESG standards, our pillars include providing access to education, health care, and justice; supporting sustainability; and promoting diversity and inclusion. We work together to advance a deeper shared social mission and make the best choices for our people, our society, and our planet—and regularly collaborate with our clients as they seek to do the same. We invite you read CSR + ESG = Sustainability at O’Melveny for the details.
