Our Survey Says
- “We typically recruit our summer associates for specific practice groups, so it is important to have an interest or aptitude for a particular area of the law and not expect to rotate through different practice areas.”
- “A new transaction kicked off at the start of my first summer, and so I spent the whole summer supporting the team on that transaction from start to finish. The second summer, I focused on a single transaction while providing additional support to others and to non-M&A corporate work in between. My training was intense and hands-on, but all the work was substantive.”
- “I was treated as an organic part of the M&A team, which included the occasional dinner or drinks after work. Someone—typically a partner—took me to lunch every day. The firm had various social events not specific to summer associates to which I was invited and in which I participated. One of the senior partners took the summer associates to a pro soccer game. In general, the events targeting summer associates were very light, but the focus on substantive work and contributing to the team was very fulfilling and made the transition to practice feel seamless.”
- “The firm has an extremely healthy work culture. Everyone is very respectful of each other and their time. The social events were well-attended, and senior associates and partners made an effort to interact with the other summers.”
- “Having a chance to meet over lunch with practically every partner and senior counsel in every practice group in our office.”
- “I was pleasantly surprised at how much control I had over my schedule and the work I pursued, in addition to how much I was encouraged to participate in community activities as part of laying the groundwork for future business development.”
- “The expectations were well-communicated. The amount of work and what it takes to succeed were all outlined. The biggest difference is the adjustment to work as an associate. The areas where expectations could have been clearer were related to acquiring work. The expectation is to work within the firm to manage and maintain your own flow of work, rather than partners consistently looping consistent workflow to the associates.”
