Vault’s Verdict

Executive Insight insiders (who sometimes call the firm ExIn) identify themselves as small but mighty, with the firm’s healthcare expertise allowing it to stand out among peer firms. Employees laud the company culture and are very invested in preserving it as the firm grows. Consultants main gripe is with their pay, which they report as being lower than their peers’ at other firms. That said, employees appreciate the investment the firm places in developing their careers, with many employees noting that they receive regular feedback and transparent performance reviews. The future looks bright for Executive Insight, with consultants confident in firm leadership’s plans for the future.

Employee Reviews:

Firm Culture

  • “One of the best things about Executive Insight is their culture. It is an amazing place to work culturally and is very warm and welcoming to all. This creates an enjoyable workplace where people feel valued and enjoy coming to work.”
  • “Great team events including summer trips and ski weekends. Relatively easy to take time off, but the AL offering is low and there is not TIL offered over crazy weeks/weekends.”
  • “High flexibility in terms of time (we need to do our 40+ hours per week, but there are no fixed core hours) and location we can work from. Interoffice travelling possibilities are not super clear—some people get to travel a lot, even for internal work; others don't get the opportunity at all.”
  • “The annual ski weekend and company event are easily my favorite benefit; it is such a great bonding activity."

Quality of Life

  • “Company works with a deliverable-oriented logic and not one of maximizing working hours. In addition to this there is no micro-managing of work hours, and project managers are actively checking in on quality of life. Also, the company is open to consider the option to take extended leaves if they are planned in advance and fit in the project delivery schedule.”
  • “Best aspect: [quality of life] is considered to be important, and getting time off in a timely/reasonable matter is not an issue. Time off is respected. Worst aspect: There are busy weeks where you easily work way over.”
  • “Yearly personal allowance to spend for personal wellness & health. Access to life coaching (both development and approaching professional career). Active staffing/workload management driving cool down time after stressful periods.”
  • “Excellent culture and work-life balance, with good understanding from managers in my experience. Some peaks during busy periods, but expected in consulting.”

Career Development

  • “The best aspect of career development is that there is a mindset for growth and a development budget to support it. The worst is that even though it is important, there is no time dedicated to work on self-development, and in busy months, you may not be able to work on it.”
  • “Worst: High variability in performance evaluation across accounts Best: Regular feedback collection on training needs is implemented into next year's training (continuous effort to improve and make it more tailored to our needs).”
  • “The company is taking my development very seriously and in a proactive manner. Continuous discussions are taking place and there are a lot of options to tackle development needs. Mentoring system is very effective, and mentors take their job very seriously.”
  • “The formal training component could be better structured e.g., perhaps recording training for review in the future or as part of the onboarding process. I do not believe there are official international opportunities but there is flexible working which can allow you to move between offices at your own expense.”

Compensation

  • “… Promotion progression is very transparent, which is much appreciated. One favorite benefit is the twice-yearly trips, which is great for team bonding, and I would consider this an additional bonus.”
  • “Appreciate food/beverages in office—strong culture and socials! Base salary and progression are quite low and slow to remain competitive in the market (aligned to cost of living increases especially in London). I would appreciate stronger compensation.”
  • “There is a good salary progression, and I like the new wellness benefits that are being implemented for 2025; social team activities are also a great benefit. The maternity & paternity leave policies are currently not aligned and call for more equality.”
  • “Best: total gender equality in pay, bonuses and career progression, unlimited upside bonus based on performance, employee retention plan.”

Community Engagement

  • “I feel that all consultants at our firm have equal access to interesting/high-quality work and promotion opportunities. For a relatively small company, we have a wide variety of nationalities, ethnicities, and a large representation of women in the company, but also leadership team and partners' team.”
  • “Majority of employees are women. Even up to the Partner level, women are well represented; however, despite this, there is a weak maternity offering. In terms of diversity, the vast majority of employees are Western European (Caucasian), and the company does not sponsor visas.”
  • “No specific efforts to my knowledge but generally high acceptance of diversity, 50% women in the company.”

Business Outlook

  • “Best: There is a clear plan going forward, and the leadership team has carefully planned and executed next steps. Worst: Hard to say—perhaps not clear how the next steps will impact the current company culture, and what steps will be taken to maintain the culture.”
  • “Sometimes I feel we could do more thought leadership work (What differentiates us from others?) to be recognized as truly innovative by our clients.”
  • “Strong expansion and visibility in terms of leadership's goals and mission. Always candid and open to maintaining ExIn's culture.”
  • “Best: Continuous innovation and efforts to grow. Worst: High variability across the year.”

Hiring Process

  • “There are three interview rounds: the first two [are] with HR, the third round is a [face-to-face] interview day with three colleagues across different levels. Candidates should have a positive mindset and be motivated to join ExIn, show a fit with the culture, and apply analytical and logical thinking.”
  • “Looking for motivated, confident, and hard-working employees. Important to have the right balance of ambition and the ability to ask for help and be open to coaching”
  • “The candidate is presented with feedback afterward, and steps follow each other in rapid succession. They are looking for curious people who can think logically and on their feet and who fit into the current culture.”
  • “It is a very personalized call-back process if you are able to get a first-round interview. I believe the type of candidate they are seeking are those open to learning new things, adaptable, bring some analytical skills, and overall a good cultural fit.”

Interview Questions

  • “Personal interview. Technical interview. Case study. Presentation.”
  • “With specific business questions in mind, what markets have the biggest potential? Which slides would you select to build a meeting deck?”
  • “There are traditional personality-based questions and then a case study round. The final interview day is quite intense and goes through a variety of scenarios depending on your level. This includes an analytical case, personal interview, and overall storyboarding case study.”
  • “Please describe a challenging situation and how you handled it. Please describe how you would go about a project; what would be the project phases you would propose? What challenges would you expect for product X?”
