As one of the first subscription-based streaming services, Netflix is a powerhouse in the streaming media market. While originally founded as a DVDs-by-mail service to rival video-rental behemoth Blockbuster, Netflix’s switch to its current digital model in 2007 revolutionized the home media market. And it has been leading the pack in the streaming wars ever since—for example, Netflix was one of the first streaming services to start offering original content, and now its films and television shows are regulars during awards season. Its breadth of original content, from The Witcher to Bridgerton to The Umbrella Academy, means there’s something streaming for everyone—which is good, since Netflix’s main goal is to “entertain the world.”

Netflix’s main offices are in Los Gatos, CA, a small town in the Bay Area. This places it firmly within the tradition of the Silicon Valley tech company, with all the bells and whistles—for example, the stylish corporate office’s design is regularly featured in architectural magazines and websites. But more than the perks of working in the Silicon Valley tech world, Netflix as a company values its culture, which it outlines with its values of “judgement, communication, curiosity, courage, passion, selflessness, innovation, inclusion, integrity, and impact.” Wrapped up in these values is Netflix’s corporate responsibility efforts. The organization is investing in making its operations more sustainable and environmentally friendly, in large part by aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and reducing its carbon footprint.
