Liberal, open, friendly, and good faculty ad well as diversified student body.

Downers

Lack of fund as a public school. Students have less resources compared to other private schools of t14

Comments

Get ready to enjoy the California sunshine and the view of GG gate every day you study here.

My professors took time to get to know me, advise me, knew every student's name. Dean Chemerinsky spontaneously took an hour to speak with me about career advice when I was unsure of what path to pursue. Dean Chemerinsky and the faculty will go above and beyond to ensure your success and to make sure you get the most out of your time at Berkeley. While there is strong interest in big law, there is also strong pursuit of public interest work and the career office does a fantastic job of ensuring people have ample opportunities in either area of interest.

Downers

I wish student discussion was more politically well-rounded so that we could understand where conservatives are coming from.

Comments

Fantastic location, supportive student body, best professors I have ever had, you will grow tremendously here.

Berkeley Law is truly filled with some of the brightest people I've ever met.

Downers

It can lean hard left at times. This can feel somewhat suffocating for anyone in the middle of the political spectrum.

Comments

Berkeley Law was an incredible place to attend law school, and it has helped me land a job at a large firm. Even if you are not interested in private practice, the school boasts some of the best numbers for public interest work.

The benefit of being surrounded by incredibly bright & passionate students without the petty competition of other top tier law schools. Accessible, teacher-focused, and mentor ready professors. Student body that is interested in more than just big law.

Downers

Public school = limited money. Definitely miss out on the perks of the private school funding.

Comments

Go to Berkeley if you want a top tier legal education without the BS of the other top schools.

“Best Public Law School in California”

Admissions does a great job of admitting good people who are caring and focused on public interest. I didn't meet a nasty person in law school. The IP program is the best in the country.

Downers

The tenured professors are not interested in teaching. Facilities have been renovated, but still need lots of work.

Comments

Great school if you want to do IP and practice in California.

Laid back, non-traditional grading, friendly professors, large variety of organizations

Downers

West coast focus, financial aid, and lack of administration leadership

Comments

Boalt has a strong reputation in IP and in the state of California with a relaxed classroom environment.

Fellow students were collegial, diverse, and interested in many things. The intellectual program and faculty cannot be beat. There is an Asian American Law Journal, which is only one of two in the nation focused on such subject matter.

Downers

It is expensive. There is a lack of conservatives among the people at the school, which can make it a bit too liberal-fest sometimes.

Comments

There are excellent opportunities after law school if you attend Boalt Hall. The alumni network is very supportive.

students and administrators are wonderfully supportive of one another, great campus with a lot of recent improvements to the facility.

Downers

Lots of ongoing construction while I was there (since completed), can be a bit ideologically homogenous

Comments

Boalt benefits greatly from being attached to the larger university. You can cross-register of course, but even more important you can participate on sports teams or other student activities.
