Small student body; great job prospects; cheap cost of living; big law-focused

Downers

The small student body can contribute to a high school like feel and people are can be very competitive, but I don't think this is worse than any other law school. The city itself is good to go to school in but it would be more fun to be in larger market.

Comments

Pretty much everyone gets big law if they want it and I was near the bottom half of my class. Going to a school like this really takes the pressure off of being a law student.

“Great cross-disciplinary professional program”
February 2018FORMER STUDENT
Uppers

World class faculty and student bodies; access to other professional schools such as Wharton for cross-disciplinary, well-rounded education.

Downers

Despite the high tuition, there is always the impression that some parts of the school facilities are underfunded (e.g. library print room).

Comments

Definitely go to an open day and find out as much about the school as possible. I would say the faculty is much more important than course offerings.

“Best Decision I ever made”

Collegial students, excellent professors (except for Amy Wax), beautiful school, in the lovely city of Philadelphia.

Downers

The school is extremely expensive. You will be paying of loans for many years without a scholarship.

Comments

Be sure to visit the school and sit in on a class to help in your decision. Penn Law has the best placement into large law firms if that is important to you.

- Consistently ranked among the top 3 in terms of percentage of students getting biglaw roles

Downers

- Not enough activities and school support to interact with other student

Comments

Career services is really functional and it has one of the best cultures of any law school out there.

Challenging classes, great professors and a collegial atmosphere among the student body

Downers

Law school in itself is a lot of pressure, but that's not unique to Penn

Comments

Take advantage of the multi-disciplinary focus of the school (e.g., they offer a dual degree with Wharton)

“Collegial and interdisciplinary”

There's no rat race at Penn Law: sure, it's competitive and high-pressure, but the students are kind and friendly to one another. And, by and large, the faculty are really invested in the students' education and professional development.

Downers

Compared to its peer schools, Penn sports relatively small classes, but the sections are still pretty populous -- resulting in "gunners" hogging a lot of the professors' attention during class time.

Comments

Perfect balance of high-quality Ivy League education and a collegial student body and faculty.

“Top flight education in a collegial environment in a highly underrated city!”

Small class and section size was a strong selling point

Downers

The facilities were circa-70s and are overdue for a renovation
