Vault: Can you describe for us what your practice area entails?

George: I design and develop software solutions on the Appian platform to automate business processes for our clients.

Vault: What types of clients do you work with?

George: My clients throughout the years have ranged from small, family-owned financial practices to large, international non-profit organizations. I have partnered with stakeholders who are taking on their first technology project and stakeholders who have worked their whole careers in technology and I have learned a lot from both groups.

Vault: What types of projects do you work on?

George: I work primarily on enterprise scale Appian implementations where we will look to consolidate antiquated and labor-intensive business processes that currently take place across disparate software, and even sometimes analog systems, onto a single web platform. Many of the solutions I have delivered involve case management, user onboarding, internal messaging, and documentation/policy management modules.

Vault: How involved are you in the actual implementation or execution of your recommendations? Is this more reflective of your firm’s specific services or your practice area in general?

George: I am fully involved in the implementation of my recommendations. I see my role as a partnership with my clients’ stakeholder groups where I will work to understand their business processes and pain points, design and propose solutions to automate these processes, and then develop and implement these solutions with continued input. Often my team will be heavily involved in end user training processes and remain engaged post go-live to develop enhancements and provide additional support wherever possible. I believe this is foundational to the culture at Ignyte Group. We want to ensure our clients are successful in what can often be a difficult transition to new technology, and we want to be the first evangelists for the solutions we provide.

Vault: What is a typical day like for you? What are some common tasks you perform?

George: As a Senior Technology Consultant, my core responsibilities include designing system architecture to meet clients' requirements, reviewing code implemented by my development team, managing system deployments across environments, and leading regular demos to key stakeholders to showcase progress and gather feedback. On a typical day I will engage with my client’s stakeholders to align on requirements for future development. I may update our database diagram to capture news or fields, and I may be reviewing development tickets to add technical notes to ensure alignment with the developer who will be assigned to the ticket. I will meet with my development team to ensure they understand the tickets they have been assigned, answer their questions and review any code they have written. Typically, I will have a few hours of development of my own to focus on as well.

Vault: What training, classes, experience, or skills development would you recommend to someone who wishes to enter your practice area?

George: I strongly recommend the Appian certifications in addition to some basic programming coursework in a common language like Python, C++, or Java for folks interested in working in the low-code space.

Vault: How did you end up in your practice area? Did you actively pursue it?

George: I started pursuing a career in technology in my third year of college by taking some Computer Science classes to supplement the little coding experience I had through Physics coursework. Initially, I was skeptical of the low-code space, I didn’t want to pigeon-hole myself into an environment that I thought might be a fad. Once I did a little more research and got some experience on the platform, I was really blown away by its impact. The possibilities on a platform like Appian are truly endless and you have the ability to affect real change through technology by delivering solutions in months rather than years. The speed also leads to a reduced cost for our clients, making automation a very real possibility for groups that have historically been priced out.

Vault: How is your firm innovating in your practice area? What are the biggest opportunities for innovation? How have your firm’s capabilities evolved since you joined the firm?

George: It has been a really exciting time to be at Ignyte Group. Our team has been able to develop a library of off-the-shelf solutions that expand our reach to smaller organizations and allow our clients to go-live faster. We’ve also been able to overcome more difficult technical challenges and developed AI integrations to continue providing our clients with access to the latest tools in technology.

Vault: Finally, what do you like best about your job?

George: I really love the culture here at Ignyte. Everyone is really curious and focused on delivering quality solutions to our clients. It’s a lot of fun to be a part of such an intelligent and successful team.
