In a New York Times “Corner Office” interview, fashion designer and mogul Diane von Furstenberg mentions that she isn’t a “good leader” even though she has grown a global lifestyle brand out of a simple start with her staple wrap dresses. However, in addition to being the president of the esteemed CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), DVF is also listed as #71 on Forbes’ “Most Powerful Women” list. Now, that's definitely a leader, especially in the fashion industry.
But DVF isn't deterred by the stereotypes of what makes a "great leader" and explains that learning that she must first know herself before she can lead a group of people to any type of success has been a pivotal point in her career—and could be the key determining factor in her global success.
