Brown Rudnick LLP

About Us

At Brown Rudnick, we have a “one firm” philosophy that guides our firm culture, business strategy and client service model. Our collaborative, entrepreneurial approach has long been a hallmark of our firm and a key element of the value proposition we deliver to clients.

We are a comparatively small firm with more than 250 lawyers, but we regularly find ourselves opposite firms 5 or 10 times our size. Often, we are engaged to fight for the underdog, those “out of the money,” and the disenfranchised. As a result, we have a reputation for being tough lawyers who handle the toughest cases. The Firm represents clients from around the world in corporate restructuring, high-stakes litigation and international dispute resolution, M&A, securities and corporate finance, intellectual property, life sciences, funds, white collar defense, energy, real estate, environmental, and tax.

Our client base is large, diverse, and loyal; we receive significant matters daily, and our attorneys are busy. We are retained for complex, often cross-border, matters that require the highest level of intellectual ability and stamina.

Our business strategy is to seek opportunities that lend themselves to innovation and collaboration among our departments. Our geographic footprint covers the world’s leading financial centers. We feature a diverse, highly versatile workforce and strong balance among our practices, qualities that serve us well in changing market conditions.

Even as a junior lawyer, you will work closely with the partner in charge of the assignment, learning directly from some of the best in the business. At Brown Rudnick, you will not spend years lost in the library or in document production warehouses. You will have almost immediate client exposure and interaction.

Our associates receive exceptional training, not only in legal skills but in other essential areas, including critical business development skills. This is just one way we differentiate ourselves from our peers. We believe that associates, as well as partners, have an important role to play in building client relationships. Practicing our “one firm” philosophy also means that we rely on all members of the team to ensure that we continue to provide valued service to our clients.

Summer Program & Fellowships

Brown Rudnick’s Summer Associate Program is made up of our 2L Joseph F. Ryan Ingenuity and 1L Social Mobility Diversity Fellows.

The Joseph F. Ryan Ingenuity Fellowship (“JFR Ingenuity Fellowship”) seeks to honor the legacy of Brown Rudnick’s past Chair and Chief Executive Officer and retired partner Joseph Ryan. The JFR Ingenuity Fellowship is testament to Brown Rudnick’s enduring commitment to invest in law students and mentor them to be the next generation of legal thinkers, doers, and leaders. The JFR Ingenuity Fellowship is awarded to exceptional law students who have shown a high aptitude for problem-solving, creative thinking, and client service.

JFR Ingenuity Fellows are 2L students who join the Firm’s summer program and are eligible to receive up to $20,000 in scholarship assistance. Click here to learn more about, including how to apply to, our Joseph F. Ryan Ingenuity Fellowship.

In 2018, we established the Brown Rudnick 1L Social Mobility Diversity Fellowship, aimed at first year law students, who identify as a first generation professional – those who are the first in their family to graduate from baccalaureate college and/or those who are the first in their family to enter professional school.

Fellows are eligible to receive a scholarship of up to $30,000, in addition to their summer associate compensation. Social Mobility Diversity Fellows will spend their 1L summer working on a wide variety of matters as an integral member of client teams. They will be invited to firm events, lectures, and trainings throughout their law school career and will receive individualized coaching from professional development experts. Pro Bono

At Brown Rudnick, we understand the power of pro bono.

In 2001, the Firm forged The Brown Rudnick Center for the Public Interest to advance our pro bono efforts. The innovative model combines pro bono, charitable giving and community volunteer efforts. Through our Center, we champion, coordinate and celebrate our public interest work.

Through the Center, our zealous advocacy has helped: a disabled veteran break through bureaucracy to secure the health and rehabilitation benefits to which he is entitled; immigrants to overcome deportation challenges or to reconnect with their families; struggling artists who weren’t getting paid promised fees for their work.

We have gone to shelters and soup kitchens, administrative agencies and commissions, small claims court and the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of our pro bono clients.

We deeply appreciate how this work contributes to a healthy legal system; how it can help to transform a client’s life or launch a useful nonprofit organization; how it can provide both personal and professional fulfillment to the Brown Rudnick attorneys and paralegals involved.
