Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

BCLP hires high-performing associates from local law schools within and outside the T14 and those with ties to specific office locations. Coworkers are kind and collaborative, and they keep their doors open to facilitate in-office socializing. Partners treat associates with respect and as equals, and they are approachable and answer associate questions. The firm sponsors frequent training sessions, workshops, and CLE programs, while mentoring is largely offered organically. Laterals receive substantive work early. Projects are diverse and challenging, and many assignments generally align with an associate’s experience level. Associates look forward to work being distributed more evenly with the recent hiring of a workflow coordinator. BCLP’s billable target is 2,000 hours, with approximately 1,800 hours expected to be client billable; the remainder can come from pro bono work, business development, innovation, and other strategic firm initiatives. Bonus eligibility begins at 2,000 hours, with additional bonuses available at 100-hour increments above 2,000 hours. Compensation is slightly lower than the market standard. The firm enables remote working through its technology, and it is incorporating AI. Wellness efforts include counseling services, parental leave coaching, and flexible work arrangements when needed. Pro bono work is encouraged and promoted, with 100 hours counting toward billable requirement and all additional pro bono hours counting toward bonuses. Equity partnership is attainable for all associates, and some senior associates transition to counsel roles. The in-house exit opportunities are excellent. Perks include subsidized meals prepared by on-site chefs in some locations and a generous parental leave policy.
