Our Survey Says
VAULT'S VERDICT:
In its Troy and Houston offices, BSP Law gives associates big-time litigation experience with major clients. Clerkship or work experience is key for successful candidates, who come primarily from top 50 or Michigan law schools. Office settings are supportive and collaborative, and coworkers enjoy socializing together—especially at the firmwide retreat held every two years. Partners regard associates exceptionally well, involving them in case strategy and respecting their personal time. Their hands-on guidance and tutelage give associates many resources for professional growth in lieu of a formal training program. Partner support and instruction help lateral hires assimilate into the firm. High-quality and often complex work includes deep dives into various aspects of litigation and significant client contact. Moreover, assignments are delegated such that all associates receive meaningful experience. BSP Law’s billable hour requirement is manageable, with pro bono hours counting toward the requirement, and the firm offers work-from-home flexibility, though additional hours for non-billable work can make the workload heavy at times. Associates feel commensurately compensated for a firm of its size and appreciate the firm’s vacation stipend. Firm technology is updated and efficient for enabling remote work. In addition to billable credit for DEI-related work, a diversity committee sponsors DEI activities. Senior associates can transition to an intermediate partnership level before attaining equity partnership, which seems possible with a book of business. Going in-house or lateraling to larger firms are clear options for those seeking other opportunities.
