In 2003, Alan G. Carlson founded Carlson Caspers with colleagues from his prior firm, Merchant & Gould. At the helm of the firm, Carlson brings nearly 50 years of experience working in IP litigation. Carlson was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Trial Lawyers—the first Minnesota patent lawyer to receive this honor. He also has been recognized as a “Minnesota Icon” by the Minnesota Lawyer and Finance & Commerce.

Supporting Scholars

Medtronic Inc. et al. v. Teleflex Life Sciences Ltd.

Carlson Caspers secured a series of wins for Teleflex in challenges by rival medical device maker Medtronic involving patents related to catheter technology.

M-I Drilling Fluids v. Dynamic Air Inc.

Carlson Caspers achieved a victory for client Dynamic Air, defending it against patent infringement allegations by M-I Drilling. The Court held that Dynamic Air did not infringe the asserted patents and awarded Dynamic Air $1.4 million in attorneys’ fees.

Exmark Manufacturing Company Inc. v. Briggs & Stratton Corporation

Carlson Caspers successfully prevailed in Nebraska federal court when a jury awarded its client Exmark $14.38 million in damages, and additionally $14.38 million in enhanced damages
