About Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, L.L.P.
Dallas-based Carrington Coleman is a full-service law firm with three offices in Texas. Though the firm keeps a relatively small roster, with just over 50 attorneys on staff, the firm maintains a strong reputation in the Lone Star state and beyond.
A Respected Legacy
Carrington Coleman was originally founded in 1970 as a litigation boutique. Jim Coleman, one of the founding partners, was an especially well-known, beloved litigator in the state of Texas. Throughout his nearly seven-decades-long career, he earned countless awards for his contributions to the legal profession, and he was even voted “the most respected lawyer in Dallas” by his peers. “I love being a lawyer because the law is the most beautiful thing you can do. It is about helping people."—This quote by Mr. Coleman is a good indicator of how he earned his reputation.
Texas Rangers with Range
Carrington Coleman’s legal services are wide ranging, with emphases on complex litigation, business and real estate transactional matters, and corporate insolvency and restructuring matters. Its litigation department handles all types of disputes, including antitrust and trade regulation, corporate governance and compliance, fraud and deceptive trade practices, and trade secret litigation and products liability. On the transactional side, the firm handles everything from mergers and acquisitions to strategic business counseling, and the firm has experience serving as outside general counsel to company clients. The firm’s insolvency and restructuring team has been involved in high-profile reorganizations within and beyond Texas state lines, and the group represents a range of creditor and debtor clients.
Given its robust expertise, it’s no surprise that the firm’s client roster spans many industries, and clients range from individuals to large multinational corporations. Household-name clients have included Southwest Airlines, Aon Corporation, Fannie Mae, Honeywell, and the Goodrich Corporation, to name a few. Outside attorneys and other law firms also rely on Carrington Coleman’s legal team to represent them when the need for legal counsel arises. But the professional liability team doesn’t just cover the legal profession—they are also known for advocating on behalf of doctors, accountants, insurance professionals, and business executives.
A Champion for Texas Women in Law
Since opening its doors, Carrington Coleman has been a firm that supports women in their professional endeavors. Founding partner Jim Coleman hired women at a time when other firms refused, and his hires included now-federal-judge Barbara Lynn. Mr. Coleman was also known to fire clients who refused to work with women lawyers. Today, headed by female Managing Partner Monica Latin, the firm continues the tradition of supporting women by paying attorneys’ membership dues to organizations such as the Dallas Women Lawyer’s Association and the Dallas Women’s Foundation. And the firm surveys its attorneys twice a year to ensure that everyone is obtaining opportunities commensurate to their career level.
