Fisher Phillips

Our Survey Says

Fisher Phillips was founded as a sole office with the singular purpose of representing employers in labor and employment matters, and it has stayed true to this mission throughout incredible expansion. Firm recruiting prioritizes work experience over grades and law school attended, and certainly looks for candidates interested in labor and employment law. Office settings are friendly and welcoming, and people enjoy getting together for firm events—though not at the expense of personal time. Partners take an interest in associates both personally and professionally, and are open to associates’ questions and ideas. Partners are responsive mentors when associates reach out, and the firm is taking steps to improve its formal mentorship program with a revamp and relaunch in April 2022. Integration of lateral hires includes some, but not excessive, onboarding procedures. Work assignments are high level and interesting, and associates get lots of experience since most cases are staffed with only one partner and one associate. Allocation of work seems fair, which gives associates equal footing in striving to meet the firm’s reasonable 1,850-hour billable requirement (with another 150 hours needed for client/firm development) and allows for a decent work-life balance. Salaries—though not the market standard—are fair for these hours, for most geographic markets, and for firms that do similar work. However, bonuses are difficult to attain. Firm technology has improved in recent years and generally works well, and beyond basic offerings, wellness efforts are minimal. Diversity hiring, mentoring, and programming are solid, which are supplemented by a chief diversity officer and an active diversity committee. Associates have solid opportunities to make partner or transition to government or in-house positions.
