About Goulston & Storrs PC

Founded in 1900, Goulston & Storrs is an AmLaw 200 firm with around 200 lawyers working down the East Coast from Boston to New York City to DC. The firm touts its collaborative culture with a motto of “Collaboration: Some law firms say it. We live it.”

Keeping It Real

Operating across four main departments—corporate, litigation, private clients, and real estate—Goulston & Storrs is adept at handling a range of legal issues. The firm’s sub-specialties range from banking and finance to bankruptcy and restructuring to capital markets and securities to commercial litigation to data privacy to employment to environmental to estate planning to professional liability to real estate to tax—and much more. Among the industries the firm serves are health care, hospitality and recreation, international investment in U.S. Real Estate, multifamily housing, commercial real estate, retail, and technology.

The firm is probably best known for its experience in real estate law. Around half of the firm’s attorneys focus on this practice, advising such clients as developers, entrepreneurs, investors, and REITS, as well as property owners and commercial tenants. The firm offers comprehensive real estate counsel with a multidisciplinary bent—clients also benefit from the firm’s experience in bankruptcy, insurance, environmental law, and tax, for example.

People Pleaser

Goulston & Storrs has a record of pleasing its employees, having been hailed as one of the best places to work by publications such as The American Lawyer, the Washington Business Journal, and the Boston Business Journal. Described as a firm with an “old-fashioned management” style by the ABA Journal and as having “traditional values” by The American Lawyer, Goulston & Storrs has distinguished itself as a firm with a relatively low employee turnover rate.

Dedicated to Others

As a co-founding firm of the Massachusetts Legal Clinic for the Homeless, Goulston & Storrs is dedicated to pro bono work. In 1989, Goulston & Storrs became the second firm ever to receive the American Bar Association's national pro bono award, an honor usually reserved for individual attorneys. Goulston & Storrs’ commitment to pro bono continues today. More than 72 percent of firm attorneys participate in pro bono work.
