Our Survey Says
VAULT'S VERDICT:
Hogan Lovells targets top law schools, holistically prioritizing personality and talent in its hiring and not compromising its standards. Associates describe colleagues as well-rounded and personable with a genuine interest in each other as people. A working partnership model at the firm means that partners and senior attorneys are in the trenches with associates, boosting morale. Hogan Lovells maintains a flexible hybrid work policy with a loose three-days-per-week in-office requirement, which the firm supports with solid technology and an excellent IT team. Compensation is based on a 2,000-hour requirement and has continued to match the market rate. At Hogan Lovells, 150 pro bono hours are credited toward this requirement. The work is very substantive, and assignments are targeted to individual strengths and abilities rather than solely on associate class year, but they can vary. The firm offers on-site counselors and opportunities to bond and relax throughout the week. Mentorship is supported, and HL Learn provides live and recorded classes. The firm also offers a confidential career coach to help associates chart their career paths. Counsel positions are stepping stones to non-equity partnership, and in-house and government opportunities are available.
THE FIRM'S PERSPECTIVE:
Our culture sets us apart from other law firms. It’s at the center of who we are at the firm.
For one, we offer a vibrant and supportive network with shared ambition. Join us and you’ll be part of a global team that partners with world-leading innovators, actively shaping the future. We realize opportunities for many of the largest global brands around the world, particularly in complex, high-stakes, and multijurisdictional matters that often lie at the intersection of business and government. Then there’s our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is at the core of who we are and how we do business. We seek talented individuals from all backgrounds to build diverse and integrated teams. We invest in our people. Our award-winning HL Learn programs provide platforms for professional and personal growth. HL Dialogue furthers our commitment to provide feedback and opportunity for career development. HL Passport allows our secondees to expand their network and build relationships with clients and colleagues across borders. And we are committed to being a responsible business. Giving back is part of our DNA. Almost 50 years ago, we were the first law firm to establish a freestanding pro bono department. Focusing on access to justice and the rule of law, our U.S. lawyers spend more than 150,000+ hours annually on work to achieve lasting impact for others.
We’re proud of our supportive and ambitious culture and environment that foster success and bring out your best. We invite you to see if Hogan Lovells is the right place to start your career.
