Our Survey Says

 VAULT'S VERDICT:

With an amazing international presence, expertise in many practice areas, and a strong history in pro bono work, Hogan Lovells has something for everyone. Applicants typically have good grades from T14 or top regional schools, and emphasis is placed on people who would be good to work with. Fit with the firm’s friendly and collaborative culture is important as well, and people at the firm recognize the importance of personal lives. Partners support associates and take an interest in their personal development. Formal trainings are excellent, while partners and senior associates step in with feedback and helpful guidance. The firm could do more to onboard its lateral hires. Associates get a nice range of substantive work, though more challenging work is assigned based on abilities and past experiences. The billable hour requirement of 2,000 hours, which can include 150 pro bono and 50 DEI hours, is attainable, and associates enjoy market salaries and bonuses. Additional bonuses come at increments of 100 beyond the 2,000-hour minimum. Wellness programs exist, but the firm could promote and enforce them better. Hogan Lovells does pro bono extremely well—it was the first firm to have a dedicated pro bono practice, and staff actively encourages work in the area. There are many endeavors to promote diversity, while work is needed in the areas of retention and promotion. Partnership is achievable, as are counsel positions and many external placements in-house, with other firms, and with the government.
