The firm’s attorneys socialize at daily snack time in the office and often participate in social activities like group classes and happy hours. Most associates come into the office three days per week, but they also say that they have strong flexibility on when and where they do their jobs. Partners assign work to associates in an open-market system, with assigned partners monitoring their workloads to evenly distribute work. Partners are respectful of associates, and the firm provides opportunities to network with them by arranging quarterly dinners. They share updates about firm finances and performance at quarterly town hall meetings, and they participate in a sponsorship program to work on career development for senior associates, along with additional formal mentoring programs. The firm’s billable hour requirement includes unlimited pro bono hours and firm-eligible hours, which are non-billable hours that count toward the bonus. The firm’s base salaries follow the market for associates’ first three years and remain close to market afterward. Advancement to non-equity partner is realistic for associates, often after spending time in a counsel role, and equity partnership is available to those who generate business.
