About Nossaman LLP
Founded in Los Angeles in 1942, Nossaman has been a key player in California law and politics for more than seven decades. The firm has pushed beyond the state’s borders with offices in Austin, DC, and Seattle.
LA Law
Nossaman got its start in LA when Walter Nossaman and Joseph Brady launched a tax law firm named Brady & Nossaman. Nossaman quite literally wrote the book on trusts, penning Trusts Administration and Taxation—an updated version of which is still in publication today. When Brady retired in 1962, Nossaman and his team merged with another tax firm to form Nossaman, Thompson, Moss, Scott & Riordan; named partner Richard Riordon would later serve as LA’s mayor through most of the 1990s. The firm continued to expand through mergers and opening new offices over the next few decades, including with the 2008 pairing with Washington, DC, firm O’Connor & Hannan, at which point the firm dropped all its other names to become simply Nossaman LLP.
Holistic Lawyering
Nossaman focuses on infrastructure, environmental law, litigation, healthcare, real estate, public policy and corporate law for clients in a number of industries.. The firm has worked for the FDIC, Texas Department of Transportation, United Surgical Partners International, The Regents of the University of California, Sprint Nextel Corporation, Procter & Gamble, and Valero Energy Corporation.
Known for its work advising government agencies and other entities, Nossaman counsels those in the public sector in a range of areas, including employment, health care, litigation, natural resources, real estate, and more. When it comes to litigation, the firm has experience in trials, appellate work, and alternative dispute resolution. Among the industries its litigators serve include antitrust, environmental law, financial services, health care, insurance, real estate, and technology.
Nossaman takes what it calls a “holistic approach” to its clients’ needs. Those seeking advice on transactional matters will also benefit from the firm’s experience in employment, health law, IP, real estate, and other areas, as the firm’s attorneys work across practices to advise clients on all of their needs.
