Our Survey Says
VAULT'S VERDICT:
Hardworking, friendly, and sociable associates make working at Paul, Weiss appealing. The best candidates are bright, with top grades from top schools, and ambitious, with leadership experience. Associates appreciate that the culture is social without being pushy, and that the firm’s commitment to social justice is genuine. Paul, Weiss provides the training and mentorship necessary for associates to perform above their ability at an early stage, which pairs well with the high-level, substantive workload. Partners respect associates’ time and work closely with associates during their time in the firm’s rotation system, including providing regular feedback and reviews. There is no billable hour requirement, though associates often work long, BigLaw hours. Partnership at the firm is possible but not likely for most associates, but associates feel that working at Paul, Weiss opens many doors at other firms or at in-house roles. Compensation is lockstep and market for both base salary and bonuses, though associates would appreciate more insight into decisions about discretionary bonuses. Firm technology is strong, which aids in associates working from home two days per week. Paul, Weiss offers generous perks with budgets for wellness, mentorship, and technology. There is diversity among the associates, but the firm could improve upon promoting diverse attorneys to partnership. Pro bono is highly emphasized at the firm, and many junior associates take on pro bono projects to enhance their skills.
