Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Perkins Coie’s vision is to be second to none in creating and fostering a diverse workforce that reflects a broader society, to ensure opportunities for all attorneys, and to advance as the most trusted advisor to our clients. Our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) strategies are designed to address the needs of those who have traditionally been underrepresented in large law firms: people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and veterans.
In addition to our commitment to excellence and community, diversity and inclusion is integral to our firm culture; it allows us to learn from one another, appreciate our differences as well as our similarities, and collaborate more effectively. We are not only dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion within the firm, we are also committed to supporting and partnering with external organizations to create a more diverse and inclusive legal profession:
- Since 2006, the firm’s Strategic Diversity Committee has worked to guide the firm’s D&I strategy. That strategy encompasses our people, programming, and initiatives throughout the firm, with participation at every level and in every department. Attorneys and business professionals each carry the responsibility for furthering the firm’s diversity and inclusion goals. Additionally, our resource groups, mentoring and sponsorship programs, local diversity committees, and innovative initiatives (like our social justice fellowship) help ensure that our diverse business professionals are supported, engaged, and reinforce our inclusive culture.
- Our efforts also extend to the broader community, notably through our Commitment to Racial Equality and our actions to end racism and to help create a more just and equal society. The firm partners with clients, legal organizations, and community leaders to further our commitment.
- We have been recognized for our work by organizations:
- Received Mansfield 4.0 Certification Plus for Diversity Leadership from Diversity Lab, 2021.
- Named one of the “Best Workplaces for Diversity™” by Great Place to Work® and Fortune, 2019 – 2020.
- Named one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother/Flex-Time Lawyers, 2008, 2009, 2011 – 2021.
- Received 100% score in the Corporate Equality Index and designated as one of the “Best Places to Work” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, 2009 – 2021.
- Received Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) Thomas L. Sager Award, 2021.
