White & Case evaluates candidates holistically, with valued qualities including strong academics, second-language skills, and an interest in international work. The firm’s culture is described as collaborative and open, and associates appreciate the intentionally global nature of the firm. Partners are approachable, respectful, and appreciative of associates’ contributions, and associates are assigned “buddies” and other mentors who support their development. Training at orientation for new associates is followed by regular training sessions as part of a first-year instruction series such as Smart Decision-Making: Sharpening Your Priorities and Confidence Hacks. Laterals are integrated through effective training and mentoring. Work assignments are cutting-edge and challenging, and associates can assume leadership and ownership of various projects. The firm’s work allocation managers centralize staffing, which keeps tasks evenly distributed, and associates can also seek work directly. White & Case sets a billable hour requirement of 2,000; 200 hours may comprise pro bono or other bonus eligible firm-chargeable hours. The firm expects associates to be in the office four days per week. Salaries and bonuses track the BigLaw market standard. The technology is solid, and the firm utilizes AI applications. Wellness is promoted through accessible healthcare professionals, competitions, and regular programming such as yoga.
