The promotion practices are very transparent and objective. That said, the expectations are VERY demanding, which makes it easier to succeed as a single person. Family and child rearing responsibilities make it more difficult for parents to succeed and get promoted and this is more pronounced for most mothers who take more responsibilities than fathers do. E.g. while already working around 65-70 hours, having to spend 5 hours on family during the week would really tip the scales to unsustainable.
