Dance educators who work at secondary or postsecondary schools may be members of the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association. There are many professional associations for dance teachers and dancers at the local, state, and national levels. For example, the National Dance Education Organization offers membership categories for high school students, college students, and young professionals; publishes the Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice; provides continuing education opportunities; and hosts an annual conference. National Dance Teachers of America offers membership, certification, and networking events. The National Association of Schools of Dance accredits postsecondary dance education programs. Other noteworthy organizations include the American Association of University Professors, Dance/USA, SHAPE America, and USA Dance.
