When it comes to social networking, it's wise to put your best face forward. Meta, Silicon Valley juggernaut, was launched in 2004 by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg as an online version of the Harvard Facebook. (The name comes from books of freshmen's faces, majors, and hometowns that are distributed to students.) In 2012 Facebook began publicly trading after filing one of the largest IPOs in US history. Facebook broadened its portfolio with a number of acquisitions in recent years and most notably owns the popular photo-sharing app, Instagram, and the widely used messenger app, Whatsapp. In 2021, the company changed its name to Meta to better reflect its offerings and place in the "metaverse."

Meta offers a number of internship positions for college students and those pursuing their Master's and Ph.D. in and out of the technology field. Meta provides a lot of opportunities for interns to succeed. From hackathons to fun offsite events to weekly Q&As with the leadership team, the company's internship program is fast-paced and will have participants building and shipping from day one. Interns are given the opportunity to grow as leaders and solve problems, all while reimagining ways to connect people and brands. Programs are predominantly based at Meta's headquarters in Menlo Park, California, with a number of other programs based in New York City and Seattle, among other locations. Some international opportunities are also available in the Brazil, France, Ireland, and the UK.
