The Centene Summer Intern Experience provides student interns an exceptional learning and development experience that they will not receive anywhere else. Not only are our gifted interns receiving the opportunity to work for a globally-recognized healthcare leader and one of the largest healthcare companies in the industry, they are being entrusted to do real work: work that is driving our company forward and helping us provide healthcare solutions to millions across the world and nearly 1 in 15 individuals in America.
The Centene Summer Intern Experience empowers student interns to provide a meaningful impact at a company ranked in the top 25 of the Fortune 500® and recognized as the leader in managed care. The contributions our interns make can have a real, lasting effect on the members we serve in communities across the country and around the world. And these contributions do not come solely from those with backgrounds in healthcare; Centene offers a variety of diverse opportunities, ranging from IT to data analytics, from clinical programs to member-facing services. Additionally, students can take advantage of Centene’s interactive, world class learning and development options, network with leaders in the industry, and form significant professional relationships that will continue to guide them long after their internship has ended.
The Summer Intern Experience also supports Centene’s overall strategy of filling the talent pipeline with an ever-growing, diverse, and competitive pool of emerging talent enterprise-wide. Each summer, Centene hosts more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students virtually and in-person, enabling them to learn from and contribute to a global healthcare leader that serves millions of valued members.
Our internships support the development of early-career professionals through targeted coaching, exposure, and mentoring from emerging leaders at Centene. The experience also centers on the theme of “Finding Your Purpose,” which enables interns to identify what drives them. As a purpose-driven company, our purpose has served as our roadmap as our enterprise has grown from a health insurer in a single state to the national leader in managed care. And we recognize that in much the same way, our interns will require their purpose to guide them through their many life and career journeys. Through training and education, networking, and opportunities to engage in meaningful work, we enable our interns to find and tap into their own purpose.
We know that our student interns could be the ones who change everything, and that’s why the Centene Summer Intern Experience provides interns with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to not only obtain a job and build a career, but to serve as leaders. In fact, to date, 37% of our intern class has been converted to either full-time or part-time positions at Centene, serving as valuable team members and as important ambassadors of our internship program.
