VAULT’S VERDICT:
Through a competitive hiring process, Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP recruits hardworking team players from all law schools as associates, who should also mesh well with their coworkers. Colleagues are collegial and respectful and enjoy getting to know each other. Partners are approachable, and they invest time in associates’ professional development by answering questions and soliciting input. Assigned and informal associate and partner mentors provide guidance, and the Cahill Academy trainings are level-appropriate and extensive. Work assignments are substantive and can be beyond an associate’s experience level, and associates enjoy plenty of client contact. A free market system is used for project distribution. Cahill does not impose a billable hour requirement. Compensation is at the top of the market scale. Special and super bonuses based on hours and performance exceed the prevailing market rate. Technology upgrades, including new laptops, are appreciated. Wellness initiatives are directed by a committee and include discounts at gyms and occasional yoga or exercise classes. Pro bono work is available through a dedicated coordinator, and all pro bono hours count as billable. Promotion to counsel and equity partner is a realistic option, and those who leave tend to go to banks, hedge funds, or private equity firms. Perks include meals and Ubers when working after hours, a relaxed dress code, and very flexible in-office arrangement.
