Our Survey Says
- “I had an enriching summer associate experience (in-person, pre-COVID). Because of the firm's rotating practice group assignment system for summer associates, I was able to 'try out' four different areas of the law to see what subject matter and group I liked best. My assignments were substantive despite the short amount of time I was on each type of case. I also appreciated the abundance (but not overabundance) of social events to get to know people. My experience as an associate has been consistent with the experiences that associates shared with me over the summer, so I feel like my expectations were met.”
- “I do think my summer experience prepared me to be an associate, but not for being an associate during the pandemic when we are primarily working remotely.”
- “Walking food tour of San Francisco, curling.”
The Firm Says
The best path to joining Farella Braun + Martel as a first-year attorney is through participation in our summer associate program. Our program introduces law students to a range of the firm's activities and enables us to assess their fit at the firm. At the same time, our program allows students to decide whether Farella is the right fit for them. Over the course of the summer, summer associates rotate into different practice groups every two weeks, working with attorneys on a variety of projects that involve actual client matters. We provide summer associates with the same kind of billable client work that an associate performs. Summer associates also participate in out-of-office experiences that may include attending depositions, court hearings, and client meetings. We offer practical experience to help our summer associates gain an accurate view of what the practice will be like as an associate with the firm.
