Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

Associate candidates interview with at least four or five Fried Frank employees, who are looking for hardworking, organized prospects who demonstrate communication and analytical skills. The firm hires from top national programs and regional schools. Associates describe the firm’s culture as collegial, friendly, and social, and the dress code is fairly casual. Partners build relationships with the associates in their practice area, making themselves available to answer questions and soliciting associate feedback. In addition to attending the New Associate Academy, hires receive assigned partner and associate mentors, as well as buddies who incorporate associates into their projects. Laterals undergo orientation and receive work right away. Regularly held town halls keep everyone updated on firm business. Associates work at or above their level, supported by technology that aligns with the hybrid work arrangement. The firm’s billable hours requirement is 2,000 per year, which includes 20 mandated and up to 300 total pro bono hours, for a market salary and bonus. Associates who bill at least 1,850 hours are eligible to receive a partial bonus. Associates who bill 2,200 or more hours receive above-market bonuses. The firm offers partnership and special counsel roles, but openings vary by practice group. Perks include in-house therapy and career coaching; a fitness stipend; and work-from-home weeks at the end of summer, the week of Thanksgiving, and the last two weeks of the year.
