Holland & Hart LLP

Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

Holland & Hart is interested in lawyers who fit their culture, which associates describe as laid-back, friendly and respectful, while still being goal-oriented – a fitting depiction of a mountain-states firm. Partners treat associates with respect, and associates feel that many partners genuinely care about their professional development. Substantive, high-quality work is available from the start for associates, and the firm offers both a formal mentoring program and informal mentoring based on both practice area and mutual interests. While work-life balance seems to be important to the firm, and there is not a sense that billing over the required hours is expected, associates note that it has been difficult to achieve a good balance recently due to high volumes of work. The compensation structure is somewhat unique, with associates slotted into tiers instead of the usual market lockstep by class year, but associates are generally happy with the pay in more typical years. Promotion to partnership is seen as very realistic, with options to become counsel at the firm or go in-house also available. The firm is highly committed to pro bono, with pro bono staff providing regular opportunities for associates and an expectation of associates to complete 100 hours of pro bono work each year. Holland & Hart is also invested in diversity, including in their hiring, and requires 25 hours a year of diversity work, whether that be mentoring diverse attorneys or participating in diversity initiatives.
