Our Survey Says
- “The summer associate program is well thought out, and involves getting substantive work and feedback. Networking and socializing with attorneys are also stressed.”
- “The summer experience was excellent. I had a fully remote summer due to COVID-19, but Irell put together an excellent program. The quality of work was excellent—I was asked to do actual tasks on cases that attorneys would otherwise do had a summer associate not done it. The training and mentoring was also very good—we got to work with attorneys at all levels, and we got feedback from all of them. The social aspects of the program were also done very well—I became close with my fellow summers and got to know several attorneys at the firm. My experience practicing has only differed positively—I have received responsibility much faster than I expected I would.”
- “We had assignment managers who would conduct work from partners and senior associates. We were given two weeks or so per assignment, and detailed, upbeat feedback in return. There was never a shortage of assignments. Training and mentoring were extensive, and we were given a generous and unlimited lunch budget to meet other attorneys. We had ours during COVID, so there were only a few in-person events at the end of the summer.”
- “My summer experience at Irell was awesome. While it was obviously much more laid back than actually starting as an associate, people were very straightforward about what associate life was like, and my experience so far has matched up with that. I received very interesting, substantive assignments and had plenty of time to do them while still having room for social events.”
The Firm Says
Our summer program is designed to provide an opportunity for summer associates to explore all areas of our practice; participate in client meetings, court hearings, depositions, and trials; and work with many of the firm's attorneys. The goal is for summer associates to end the summer with a sense of what practicing as an attorney at Irell & Manella is really like. We also want summer associates to develop relationships with each other and their future colleagues.
